About Director:

Arjun Chakraborty was born in Kolkata, and spent his early childhood in Rajasthan. His father Sri Chandranath Chakraborty a Doctor by profession, was a radiologist, practising medicine in Rajasthan. Arjun graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree from Maharana Bhopal College Udaipur, after which he left for Mumbai in 1980.

He joined Mr. Gulzar, a prominent Film Director as an assistant Director and worked with him for five years. During this period, Arjun assisted him in the making of “Namkeen” (Sanjeev Kumar,Sharmila Tagore), “Angoor” (Sanjeev Kumar, Moushami Chatterjee), “Devdas” ( Dharmenda, Hema Malini.) and “Libaas” (Naseeruddin Shah, Shabana Azmi).

While working with Mr Gulzaar, legendary Director from the south Mr. K. Balachander (of “ Thaneer Thaneer” fame) offered Arjun a pivotal role in 'Zara si Zindagi” along with Kamalahasan, Anita Raj and Mazhar Khan. This was followed by roles in “Libaas”and “Ankush”.

At the behest of Mrinal Sen, he also acted in “Ek din Achanak” (Shabana Azmi,Dr Shreeram Lagoo and Aparna Sen), a Hindi feature film shot in Kolkata; “Kari diye Kinlam”, directed by Biresh Chatterjee; “Pranami Tomai” by Prabhat Roy; “Atmaja” by Nabendu Chatterjee; “Antardhan” and “Wheelchair”- Both National Award winners in the regional category Directed by Sri Tapan Sinha; “Abhagin Swarga” starring Jaya Bachahan and directed by Tapan Sinha; “Cinemai Jemon hoi”, with Deboshree Roy,directed by Mrinmoy Chakraborty.

Arjun has also worked with directors like Sukhen Das, Anjan Chowdhury, Inder Sen, Asit Sen, Umanath Bhattacharya, Sandip Ray,Utpalendu Chakraborty, etc.
